Just Listen (Reggaeton Edition)

J. Balvin ft. Willy William – “Mi Gente”

Here at Something About Nothing we are open to all types of things.  We are not on the up and up on the Latin music market, but I just happen to come across this song.  From the start, this song is just plain catchy.  Whatever sound that is in the beginning gets stuck in your head and trust me it is very hard to get out.  I may not know what they are saying, but at this point I don’t care because I am already dancing and lost in the music.

So for this Just Listen post I want you guys to turn your volume all the way up and get dancing.  You can watch the video down below.  Also let us know what you thing in the comment section below.

Every Sample on JAY-Z’s 4:44

JAY-Z’s  13th solo album ‘4:44’ is here and fans have already started to dig into it to identify some of the most prominent samples used by the project’s sole producer No I.D. Genius rounded up every sample you need to know, from Nina Simone’s 1966 track “Four Women” on “The Story of O.J.” to Sister Nancy’s dancehall classic “Bam Bam” on “Bam” featuring Damian Marley and Donny Hathaway’s “Some Day We’ll All Be Free” on “Legacy.”

DJ Jazzy Jeff & MICK: Summertime Vol. 8

Summer wouldn’t be summer without a annual DJ Jazzy Jeff mixtape.  For seven straight summers the illest DJ to ever touch some turntables has blessed the people with his amazing mixes.  The cookout-ready set is packed with tunes from the likes of JAY-Z, Pharrell, SWV, Heavy D, Barry White and much more.  Stream the mix below and enjoy.

The Story of O.J.

JAY-Z has let loose once a Tidal exclusive for everyone to enjoy.  Check out the video below.

“‘The Story of OJ’ is really a song about we as a culture, having a plan, how we’re gonna push this forward,” JAY-Z says of the song during his track-by-track break down of the album. “We all make money, and then we all lose money, as artists especially. But how, when you have some type of success, to transform that into something bigger.”

The video is a  animated clip revolving around the character of Jaybo (a flip on “Sambo” from the racist children’s book The Story of Little Black Sambo from the 20th century) as he navigates through a landscape of cotton fields, slave ships, burning crosses, and lynchings.

Pharrell – “Yellow Light” (Video)

Big thanks to the minions, Pharrell is back.  Skateboard P has released the video for his solo track, “Yellow Light”, which is the first single off the Despicable Me 3 soundtrack.  The very retro laced and heavy special effects video goes very well with the upbeat, bright, and bubbly song.  Check out the video down below.

The Tape Vol. 3

That time has come again. The time for another mixtape/playlist from the something about nothing crew.  Vol. 3 is a collection music that ranges from soul, hip hop, pop, and even some reggae.  Nineteen songs collected together that go all over the place, hence the title of the blog which birthed the playlist.  I want you guys to sit back and relax and enjoy the music.  Also if there is anyone out there that would like a physical copy just let us know and we will get one to you.  Again enjoy and thanks in advance for taking time out to listen.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The PLAYlist “Chasing Goosebumps”

The album was recorded in just 7 days with the entire process documented via Facebook Live.  Some of the world most renowned artists who contributed to the album were The Roots’ James Poyser, TDE’s new artist SiR, Eric Lau Masego, from the group Foreign Exchange Eric Roberson, and of course Dayne Jordan, and many more.

According to DJ Jazzy Jeff:

Chasing Goosebumps exemplifies the sincerity and soul-bearing emotion that only comes from unhindered creativity. Not genre-specific, the album is an eclectic, yet cohesive, mix of soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz, pop and samba. From the melodies to the lyrics, Chasing Goosebumps is moving and provocative, tackling topics like social injustice, relationships, love and the music industry. Vocalist Glenn Lewis serves as the perfect vessel for these stories of frustration, anger, hate, inspiration, love and hope. His distinctly familiar voice navigates the range of topics and music styles with effortless delivery.

Chasing Goosebumps is musically as diverse as the artists who brought it to life, The PLAYlist. More than a supergroup, The PLAYlist is a movement that promotes authenticity in music and empowers artists to remain true to their craft. For The PLAYlist, Chasing Goosebumps is reassurance that real, meaningful music is not a lost art. Chasing Goosebumps is not the end of an era. It’s just the beginning

Just Watch

Brand new video for Run The Jewels’ song “Rubble Kings Theme.”

This is some very cool animation and an amazing track. It follows a young woman named “Little Nina” as she walks the streets of New York and gets brutally attacked by a rival street gang. She goes to her own gang for protection and the result is animated warfare inspired by the pulp fun of movies like “The Warriors.”

Kinda heavy stuff in here. But like the song, the visuals go hard and without mercy. Nothing too crazy, so I hope y’all check it out and enjoy.

Black Friday

While the wait for their collab project continues, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar decide to treat fans to a pair of “Black Friday” freestyles. Can we please have this album asap!!!!

Getting Creative

Graham Dunning creates a techno track using household items and a turntable.  This is totally creative.  This is how music will be created after the apocalypse (hopefully we don’t get to witness this lol).

Experimental musician Graham Dunning apparently wasn’t satisfied with conventional methods to create a sick techno track, so he decided to create one using old school methods and tricks. With a spinning turntable, a varied selection of modified records, audio equipment and even household items, the impressively stacked “Rube Goldberg”-esque contraption ultimately makes a very convincing techno beat. Watch the mechanical techno demonstration above and see how everything falls into place in the end.

G-Eazy – “Random”

Banger alert!!!!!!!!  The Bay Area artist drops another banger off the new album When It’s Dark Out.  Check out “Random” below.

Bomba Estéreo, Will Smith – Fiesta (Remix)

If you know me you know I’m not a big Will Smith fan for his music.  This track right here is actually kind of hot.  The beat is crazy and Big Willie actually came kind of nice on here.  Check it out down below

Bonus info: Will said a cuss word, LOL.  The Phrase is “hot sh*t”

#Justlisten Watercolor Werewolf “Tides”
